Learn more about Adoption Incentive Program

The Bureau of Land Management’s (BLM) Adoption Incentive Program (AIP) offers $1,000 per adopted wild horse or burro, aiming to reduce the number of animals in holding facilities. However, the American Wild Horse Conservation (AWHC) has exposed how the program enables abuse, with many animals ending up in kill pens and at risk of slaughter. This financial incentive system fails to prioritize the safety and welfare of wild horses and burros. AWHC urges the BLM to end the cash incentives and instead offer veterinary vouchers.
