Learn more about “Livestock”
Livestock grazing on public lands significantly impacts the habitat of wild horses and burros. The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) allocates approximately 155 million acres for livestock, while wild horses are restricted to just 27 million acres, often sharing this limited space. This imbalance leads to resource depletion and habitat degradation, as livestock outnumber wild horses by a ratio of 30 to 1. The American Wild Horse Campaign (AWHC) advocates for the protection of wild horses by highlighting the detrimental effects of livestock grazing and promoting humane management practices, including reducing livestock presence in wild horse habitats to ensure ecological balance and sustainability.
