Learn more about “Owyhee Complex (Nevada)”
The Owyhee Complex in Nevada spans approximately 1.1 million acres and includes five Herd Management Areas (HMAs): Snowstorm Mountains, Little Owyhee, Rock Creek, Owyhee, and Little Humboldt. This complex is home to wild horses that have adapted to the harsh conditions of the region, showcasing a variety of colors and robust health. However, the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) has set low Appropriate Management Levels (AMLs) for these horses, allowing significantly more livestock grazing than wild horses. The Owyhee Complex has faced numerous roundups, raising concerns about the treatment and management of these iconic animals. AWHC advocates for humane management practices to ensure the survival of wild horses in their natural habitat.
