The Blue Wing Mountains Herd Management Area (HMA) spans approximately 17,913 acres of unfenced public lands in Nevada. Characterized by north-south trending mountains and broad valleys, the terrain ranges from 4,000 to 6,592 feet in elevation. This area experiences warm, dry days and cool nights, with annual precipitation varying from 4 to 8 inches. Located about 65 miles northeast of Reno, the Blue Wing HMA is home to an estimated 36 burros and a population of wild horses. The American Wild Horse Conservation advocates for the protection and management of these herds, emphasizing the importance of preserving their natural habitats and ensuring their well-being.
