Prescott Film Festival Kicks Off at Harkins in Prescott Valley
The Prescott Film Festival is celebrating its fifth year, offering movie-goers a selection of independent films, guest filmmakers, special screenings, and workshops. This year's festival opens with the 3-D film American Mustang, a feature-length film that will be shown at the Prescott Valley Harkins Theaters on Wednesday, July 23, with showings at 3:30 and 6:30 p.m. Both screenings will be preceded by the short feature Wild Horses. Tickets are available for $10 online at prescottfilmfestival.com, at the PFF offices on the YC campus (Building 28), or at the PFF ticket table outside the Harkins lobby starting one hour before the show.
A description of American Mustang states, "A girl's eye pulls us into a drama unfolding still on hundreds of millions of acres of public land. The battle lines have long been carved into the landscape, and the players are deeply entrenched. The intricate dance between a man and a wild horse presents lessons for us all, including the battle-hardened special interest groups fighting over the place of the American Mustang."
The short film Wild Horses tells the story of Mills, an established photographer, who returns to her native Nevada following an urgent call from her grandmother informing her that a band of wild horses, close to their hearts, faces a government roundup.
The festival features celebrity guests Ed Asner and Mark Rydell, performing a live play, Oxymorons, a raucous two-character comedy, on Thursday, July 24, at 7:30 p.m., at Yavapai College Performing Arts Center. It is preceded by the short film, Good Men, a drama about two elderly Jewish friends who get into an argument over the circumstances surrounding 9/11.
More feature-length films, series of shorts, workshops, and special events will take place from Thursday, July 24, to Sunday, July 27. Visit prescottfilmfestival.com or call 928-458-7209 for more information.
