Judge Halts Wild Horse Roundup in Nevada
A federal judge has issued a stop order to the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) for its wild horse roundup operation in northern Nevada. This decision temporarily halts the gathering at the Owyhee Complex until the court can review a lawsuit filed by a wild horse advocate.
Background of the Case
The advocate, Laura Leigh, founder of Wild Horse Education, claims to have witnessed inappropriate conduct by those involved in the roundup. The gathering began in November, with the BLM planning to gather 186 horses. Of these, 47 excess animals were to be removed, and the rest released back to the range.
