Beaver County Intervention: Protecting Wild Horses

AWHC Intervenes to Protect Wild Horses in Beaver CountyAWHC Intervenes to Protect Wild Horses in Beaver County

In a significant legal move, the American Wild Horse Conservation (formerly American Wild Horse Campaign) intervened in a lawsuit filed by Beaver County, Utah, against the Bureau of Land Management (BLM). The county sought the removal of wild horses from the Sulphur Herd Management Area (HMA) to reduce competition for resources and maintain grazing access for livestock.

Legal Intervention by AWHC

On February 6, 2017, Beaver County filed a complaint to compel the BLM to remove excess wild horses from the Sulphur HMA. This action aimed to eliminate hundreds of federally-protected wild horses to ensure ranchers' continued access to public lands for grazing domestic livestock.

On March 28, 2017, AWHC, along with Return to Freedom (RTF), The Cloud Foundation (TCF), and Steve Paige, filed a Motion to Intervene to protect these wild horses. The court granted our intervention on October 17, 2018, officially involving us in the case.
