National animal welfare nonprofit seeking to expand its team.

Right Candidate. They must passionate about horses, animal welfare and/or similar issues. They must be a driven, self-starter who can jump in, learn quickly and deliver results. They must have great attention to detail and be able to create/deliver high quality work products. They must be reliable, trustworthy and a considerate team member. And, they must be able to successfully handle multiple responsibilities successfully and enthusiastically.

Duties:

Communications. This person will provide direct support to the ED and Communications Director in the creation and execution of strategic and impactful communication plans. At a minimum, it will include:

• Press release creation and distribution
• Identification and coordination of press opportunities and development of key press relationships
• Conduct extensive media outreach
• Create and deliver content, including:
• email campaigns, blog posts and other online/social media 
• brochures and marketing pieces
• newsletters
• quarterly reports
• marketing of specific efforts and programs
• fundraising collateral
• Copyedit, proofread and revise organization communications, as needed
• Effective asset management for the organization’s various content assets, including images, video and film
• ED briefings and draft ED communications
• Creation and management of an integrated communications calendar

Development. Development work will be focused on building relationships with high donors. It will include:

• Development of donor-touch programs that are innovative, incorporate best practices and effectively leverages the Executive Director
• Creation of collateral and communication tools to support such program. This standard high donor collateral, brochures, and communication plans that would strategically leverage the ED and board members. It will also include communications drafts of for ED and providing execution support for ED.
• Creation of performance metrics to measure success of program and program elements.

This role will support and report into both the ED and Communications Director.

Requirements:

• Demonstrated passion and commitment to / for horses, animal welfare or similar issues
• At least 4-6 years’ experience as a political analyst, legislative assistant, public relations specialist, lobbying consultant, and/or journalist covering politics, public policy or legislative issues on at least a regional level.
• Ability work efficiently and meet project deadlines with minimal supervision.
• Ability to work independently while being a team player
• Ability to communicate effectively with different stakeholders, including various constituents, donors, press contacts
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
• Willingness to travel when necessary.
• Willingness to do what it takes. While many times the position will work regular working hours, this is not a 8am-5pm job. You’ll be expected to do what it takes to meet your responsibilities.

Location: We are headquartered in Davis, CA. This position can be performed remotely so long as the person is located in Northern California.
