Tour of Federal Holding Facility Raises Alarm Over Welfare of Captured Wild Horses

RENO, NEV. (May 20, 2024) – On May 16th, representatives from the leading wild horse protection organization, American Wild Horse Conservation (AWHC), witnessed disturbing conditions for over 2,000 wild horses currently confined at the privately owned Winnemucca Holding Facility. Most alarming was the presence of a severely injured, dead, or dying foal (baby horse), lying amongst the other animals in the pen. 


Public-Private Partnership Renewed for Public Safety and Management of Free-Roaming Virginia Range Horses

.For the sixth year, American Wild Horse Conservation (AWHC) and the Nevada Department of Agriculture (NDA) have signed a non-exclusive agreement to implement a humane fertility control program for the Virginia Range free-roaming horse population.

 The agreement went into effect May 1, 2024.
