Wild Horse Found Shot to Death at Salt River
Activists and the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office are diligently working to identify the individual responsible for the tragic shooting of a wild horse at Salt River. This incident has sparked outrage and concern among the community and conservation groups.
The Salt River Wild Horse Management Group reported on its Facebook page that a horse was found shot to death Thursday at the Coon Bluff Campground area. The horse, a 12-year-old mare named Dottie, had been shot four times—three times in the head and once in the shoulder.
The group speculated that this might have been a "mercy killing" if Dottie was injured. However, someone had seen Dottie the day before she was found dead, and she appeared to be in good health.
The Maricopa County Sheriff's Office (MCSO) informed ABC15 that they are actively investigating the incident. Unfortunately, this is not the first occurrence of such a tragedy in this area. Last year, another horse was found dead, having been shot twice in the chest. Additionally, two other horses were found with gunshot wounds but survived.
