The Gold Butte Herd Management Area (HMA)
The Gold Butte Herd Management Area (HMA) is a stunning landscape characterized by its "high" desert terrain, surrounded by low, rocky desert mountains. Over half of its boundary is formed by Lake Mead. This area is a haven for diverse wildlife, including desert mule deer, coyotes, foxes, and mountain lions, as well as a variety of smaller creatures. Birdwatchers can spot rare prairie falcons, ravens, quail, starlings, horned larks, and many more species. The reptilian inhabitants include numerous lizard species and both poisonous (rattlesnakes) and non-poisonous snakes.
