We’re Fighting BLM Roundup Cruelty: Here’s How

How AWHC is Fighting BLM Roundup CrueltyHow AWHC is Fighting BLM Roundup Cruelty

American Wild Horse Conservation (formerly American Wild Horse Campaign) is committed to protecting wild horses and burros from the cruelty of BLM roundups. With your support, we are actively working to raise awareness and take legal action against these inhumane practices.

Spreading Awareness

The roundups often occur in remote areas, away from public scrutiny. We send observers to document these events, holding the BLM accountable and educating the public about the atrocities on our public lands. It's our right as citizens to observe government activities, and we have fought to maintain this right through letters, complaints, and lawsuits. Public education is crucial for change, as most Americans are unaware of the plight of wild horses and burros. By building public awareness, we can create a grassroots movement to demand change. Observing, documenting, and sharing videos and photos of the roundups are essential to this task.

We started a petition to harness public opposition. Add your name and share today!

Filing Lawsuits

On our litigation page, you'll see our ongoing court battles over wild horse issues. We are involved in several cases, choosing them strategically to challenge BLM's most egregious practices. Litigation is costly and uncertain, so we carefully consider each case to avoid creating bad case law that could harm future efforts.

In the Utah and Red Desert roundups, we are documenting and seeking opportunities to challenge BLM's practices. Legal challenges against specific instances of inhumane treatment have not provided permanent solutions, as courts often offer only temporary relief. The Comprehensive Animal Welfare Policy, which we believe BLM violated, is not based in law, complicating legal challenges.

Our goal is to make lasting change for wild horses without creating negative case law. We are evaluating stronger legal strategies and will update you on our next lawsuit.

AWHC's dedicated team works tirelessly in the courtroom, on the range, and through advocacy to save wild horses. We have filed formal complaints with the BLM and brought these issues to Congressional oversight panels.
