Tex's Journey Back to His Family

August 4, 2014: Tex, the foal who was rejected by his mother a few months ago, went to visit his family, and it went really well! It took no time at all before confident Tex was running around their pasture like he owned the place. Tex will visit his family a few more times throughout the month before he will be officially reunited. Fingers crossed for this sweet boy! Stay tuned for updates!

September 4, 2014: Tex is officially back with his family!

We are very happy to report that Tex has been reunited with his family. After just a few visits, it became harder and harder to get him to come back with us. We first left him there with supervision for a couple of hours at a time, then he had a weekend visit, and that was it! His dad, BlackJack, accepted little Tex right away, and mom, Duenna, is nicer to him than the other horses, but she was never really mother material.

The biggest threat was little Sundance, who is half the size of Tex but came running up to him like the little stallion he thinks he is—ready to fight. It took a little while, but as you can see, they are now friends and even play together. After Tex was away from his family for a few weeks, we were afraid that he would be more connected to us than his family, so when we visited him, we were happy to see him visit with us and then go back to his herd again to take a nap. At that point, we were all pretty sure he was happy to be home. Yeah Tex!

A very special thank you to Karen Vineis, Shirley Allen, Palomino Honeybandit Armstrong, Terri Farley, and Jan Hall for taking such good care of this boy.
