Every year, the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) and U.S. Forest Service round up thousands of wild horses and burros from public lands in remote areas of the West — out of the public's eye. While we send observers to each of the helicopter operations that occur, the federal government and its contractors have placed a number of restrictions on public observation, making it nearly impossible to see the helicopters bringing horses or burros into the trap site or the wranglers roping the animals who evade capture. This creates a significant lack of public oversight and government transparency at the site of these traumatic roundups.

If these federal roundups continue, there is one way we can ensure accountability — cameras. If cameras are installed on every helicopter and every wrangler used to capture wild horses and burros, and if the recordings are made publicly available in the BLM's daily roundup reports, we can create public transparency and independent oversight for any operations that occur out of the public's view.

WHAT YOU CAN DO:

We need you to send a message to the Department of the Interior (DOI) Secretary, Deb Haaland, and BLM Director, Tracy Stone-Manning, and call for the installation of cameras on all helicopters and wranglers used for roundup operations. Please personalize and send the email below:
