Senate Passes Resolution Supporting Wild Horses
CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — The Nevada Senate has passed a resolution expressing support for wild horses and burros.
Senate Joint Resolution 1 recognizes wild horses as living symbols of American Western heritage, as well as natural resources and cultural assets. This resolution highlights the importance of preserving these majestic animals as part of the nation's history and culture.
SJR1 also expresses support for wild horse and burro eco-sanctuaries, something supporters say could encourage rural tourism in the state. These eco-sanctuaries aim to provide a safe haven for wild horses while promoting sustainable tourism and economic growth in rural areas.
Only Sens. Debbie Smith of Sparks and Ben Kieckhefer (KEE'-keh-fer) of Reno voted against the resolution. Their dissent highlights the ongoing debate surrounding the management and protection of wild horse populations.
The resolution now moves to the Assembly for further consideration, marking a significant step in the legislative process to ensure the protection and appreciation of wild horses and burros.
