Fighting for Devil's Garden Wild Horses: Our Efforts and Actions

The American Wild Horse Conservation (formerly American Wild Horse Campaign) is committed to protecting the Devil's Garden wild horses from inhumane roundups by the U.S. Forest Service (USFS). With your support, we are actively spreading awareness, filing lawsuits, and advocating for these majestic creatures.

1. Spreading Awareness

USFS and BLM roundups often occur in remote areas, away from public scrutiny. We send observers to document these events, holding agencies accountable and educating the public about the inhumane practices on our public lands. Public education is crucial for lasting change, as many Americans remain unaware of the plight of wild horses and burros. By observing, documenting, and sharing media from these roundups, we aim to build a grassroots movement to demand change.

2. Filing Lawsuits

Our litigation efforts are ongoing, with active cases against both the BLM and the Forest Service regarding the Devil's Garden horses. We have sued to prevent the USFS from selling wild horses without slaughter limitations and intervened in a case to protect over 2,000 wild horses from removal. Our strategic litigation aims to create lasting change, considering factors like jurisdiction and case law to ensure strong legal foundations.

We are currently involved in court-ordered mediation and will update our supporters on any developments. Our goal is to challenge USFS's roundup practices more broadly, learning from past legal challenges to seek permanent solutions.

The American Wild Horse Conservation team works tirelessly in various arenas, including legislative advocacy, courtroom battles, and administrative processes, to save wild horses. We have filed formal complaints with the BLM and brought these issues to Congressional oversight panels.

We are committed to keeping our supporters informed about our legal efforts and the ongoing fight to protect wild horses.
