Feds Agree to Delay Wyoming Wild Horse Roundup
The federal government has agreed to delay a plan to remove about 800 horses from areas in southern Wyoming. This decision comes as a relief to wild horse preservation groups who are challenging the plan.
The U.S. Bureau of Land Management (BLM) recently announced plans to start removing the horses from lands within the Great Divide Basin, Adobe Town, and Salt Wells Creek herd management areas starting August 18. However, lawyers for the federal agency have filed notice with a federal judge in Wyoming that the agency won't start the roundup until September 1.
Wild horse preservation groups argue that the BLM failed to follow federal environmental laws in planning the roundup. The delay until September 1 provides these groups with the opportunity to ask a federal judge to order the federal agency not to proceed with the roundup.
