The Reveille Wild Horse Roundup of 2020 was a significant event in the management of wild horses in Nevada. Conducted by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM), the operation aimed to capture and relocate 150 wild horses from the Reveille Herd Management Area (HMA). This roundup was closely monitored by the American Wild Horse Conservation (formerly American Wild Horse Campaign), providing daily insights and updates.

Roundup Overview

On January 21, 2020, the BLM announced plans for a helicopter roundup starting February 6, 2020. The Reveille HMA, spanning 105,500 acres, was home to an estimated 222 horses, exceeding the population limit of 82-138 mustangs set by the agency. This equates to one horse for every 764-1,286 acres. In contrast, a 650,000-acre livestock allotment overlaps part of the HMA, allowing over 25,000 Animal Unit Months, equivalent to over 2,000 cow/calf pairs.

The captured horses were destined for the Indian Lakes wild horse corrals in Fallon, Nevada.
