BLM to Begin Reveille Wild Horse Gather
The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) will soon begin gathering up to 135 wild horses from the Reveille herd management area (HMA) and surrounding Reveille Allotment, located about 50 miles east of Tonopah in Nye County, Nevada. This operation aims to manage the wild horse population effectively while ensuring their welfare.
The BLM stated that 80 wild horses will be removed from the HMA and transported to a BLM adoption facility, while approximately 55 horses will be released back to the HMA for a post-gather population of 93. Fertility control will be applied to all mares released back into the HMA to help maintain a sustainable population.
The gather is tentatively scheduled to begin on January 29. The start date will be finalized in the coming weeks, and updated information will be available on the Reveille HMA Gather webpage. A decision and determination of National Environmental Policy Act adequacy is available for review on the same webpage.
The BLM welcomes the public to attend the gather. For additional information, including what you need to know before attending, visitation protocols, and ground rules, visit the Reveille HMA Gather webpage and look under the “Downloads” section. As gather operations depend on weather and may change with little or no notice, those interested in attending should call the gather hotline at 775/861-6700 the evening before they plan to attend. The hotline will provide information about the next day’s departure time, directions to the meeting place, and updates on gather operations and progress.
The wild horses removed from the range during this gather will be transported to a BLM Wild Horse and Burro Holding Facility where they will be vaccinated, dewormed, and inspected by a veterinarian. Subsequently, the horses will be available for adoption to qualified applicants.
