BLM Proceeds with Controversial Study on Wild Mares
The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) is moving forward with a controversial study on wild mares in the Red Desert Complex. This study, originally intended to explore the migratory patterns of wild horses, has been criticized for its political motivations and potential harm to the Adobe Town Herd Management Area.
The American Wild Horse Conservation (formerly American Wild Horse Campaign) opposed this research on humanitarian and scientific grounds. The project, initially proposed to study the migratory patterns of wild horses in the Red Desert Complex, has been repurposed to support the eradication of wild horses from the Adobe Town Herd Management Area.
Over 7,200 citizens submitted comments on the Environmental Assessment for this project, urging the BLM to cancel this biased and potentially dangerous research. Despite the public outcry, these concerns were ignored. The federal support continues, benefiting public lands ranchers and the range scientists who defend their industry.
