ELKO – The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) has concluded a wild horse emergency gather on the Antelope Valley Herd Management Area, located on private land near Boone Springs, approximately 40 miles southwest of Wendover.

The BLM gathered 96 wild horses, including 46 studs, 35 mares, and 15 foals, and removed 94 of them to the Indian Lakes Off-Range Corral in Fallon. One stud was released back onto the range. Unfortunately, a 13-year-old mare died at the location of the gather, which began a month ago.

The Appropriate Management Level for the Antelope Valley Herd Management Area is set between 155 and 259 adult wild horses. As of March 1, the BLM estimated the population at 1,320, not including foals born this year.
