WINNEMUCCA — The Bureau of Land Management (BLM), Winnemucca District, Humboldt River Field Office, has concluded its Humboldt Herd Area (HA) wild horse gather. Over 300 wild horses were gathered in this effort.

“The goal was total removal of excess wild horses from the Humboldt HA. Due to finding more wild horses within the HA than anticipated, we were still able to have a safe and humane gather and removed the excess wild horses off the HA,” said Jim Schroeder, Humboldt River field manager.

The BLM has posted gather reports on its website at: BLM Gather Reports.

The gather area comprised 431,544 acres of private and public lands. The removal of the excess wild horses will help prevent further deterioration of the range and water resources, as well as address safety issues on roads and private land issues, the BLM said.

The horses were transported to the Palomino Valley Center near Reno and Oregon’s Wild Horse Corral Facility in Burns, Oregon, where they will be prepared for the BLM adoption program.
