BLM Announces National Wild Horse and Burro Advisory Board Meeting
Join the Bureau of Land Management's National Wild Horse and Burro Advisory Board as they convene in Sacramento, California, to deliberate on the management and protection of wild horses and burros. This important meeting will address key issues affecting these iconic animals on Western public rangelands.
The meeting is scheduled for Monday, April 14, 2014, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (Pacific Time), and Tuesday, April 15, 2014, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (Pacific Time) at the Courtyard by Marriott Sacramento Cal Expo, 1782 Tribute Road, Sacramento, California 95815. The Advisory Board provides guidance to the BLM under the 1971 Wild Free-Roaming Horses and Burros Act, ensuring the protection and management of these animals. The BLM estimates approximately 40,600 wild horses and burros roam across 10 Western states.
Recently, the BLM has called for research proposals to develop innovative methods for controlling the population growth of wild horses and burros. The deadline for submissions is May 7, 2014.
The public is invited to address the Advisory Board on April 14, from 3:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Interested individuals should register by 2:00 p.m. at the meeting site. Presentations may be limited to three minutes.
