Antelope Complex Roundup: A Closer Look at the BLM's Actions
Beginning in January of 2011, the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) initiated a massive capture and removal of over 2,000 wild horses from a 1.3 million-acre public land area in Antelope, Nevada. The BLM maintains that this vast area of northeastern Nevada can sustain just 427 to 788 horses. Meanwhile, the agency authorizes the equivalent of 2,000 cattle and 7,000 sheep to graze in the complex.
In October of 2012, the BLM embarked on another massive plan to remove 3,500 wild horses from public lands over the following four months.
