21 Horses Killed Near Thermopolis: Investigation Underway
THERMOPOLIS, Wyo. (AP) — The U.S. Bureau of Land Management (BLM) is investigating the killing of 21 stray horses on federal and state land northwest of Thermopolis. The BLM is offering a reward for information leading to an arrest.
BLM officials reported that the horses were discovered on Wednesday, with investigators believing they were killed sometime in the last two weeks. While wild horses roam northern Wyoming, BLM spokeswoman Sarah Beckwith clarified that these horses were strays, having been seen running loose only in recent years.
Beckwith declined to provide additional details, such as whether the horses were shot or poisoned, to avoid compromising the investigation by federal, state, and local officials.
The BLM is offering a reward of up to $2,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those involved.
