13 Virginia Range Wild Horses Find Sanctuary at Mustang Monument
American Wild Horse Conservation (formerly American Wild Horse Preservation) has successfully found a forever home for 13 Virginia Range wild horses. These horses were at risk of being sent to auction and possibly slaughter. Thanks to the generous offer from Mustang Monument eco-resort in Northeast Nevada, these horses now have a sanctuary where they can roam freely over more than 900 square miles.
The Journey to Safety
The Virginia Range horses boarded the trailer with nervous anticipation, unaware of their destination. However, they settled in for the six-hour journey to their new forever home.
Upon arrival after dark, the horses were safely unloaded in the cold temperatures. Over 300 horses greeted them, standing across the fence to welcome the new arrivals.
Mustang Monument's residents come to say hello.
A New Beginning
These fortunate 13 horses, including several pregnant mares, will join approximately 500 horses already living at the sanctuary. Our heartfelt thanks go to Madeleine Pickens of Saving America's Mustangs and the Mustang Monument for their kindness and generosity in opening their hearts and doors to these two families of horses.
It could have been a much different ending for these 13 beautiful wild horses without the help and donations of AWHC’s supporters. We thank you for your ongoing support!
