The Johnnie Herd Management Area (HMA)
The Johnnie Herd Management Area (HMA) spans a total of 212,570 acres, with 177,662 acres managed by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) and 34,908 acres managed by the U.S. Forest Service. This area is characterized by the Mojave Desert, surrounded by low, rocky desert mountains. During the hot months, burros occupy areas with ravines that provide shade.
How to Get There
The Johnnie HMA is located in southern Nevada, approximately 60 miles northwest of Las Vegas, in Clark and Nye counties.

There are an estimated 50 burros and 50 wild horses residing in this HMA.
