Burro Wild Burro Territory

The Burro Wild Burro Territory is a unique area in Nevada, offering a glimpse into the lives of wild burros. This territory spans 23,700 acres of National Forest land and 64,300 acres of Bureau of Land Management land, known as the Hickson Summit Herd Management Area.

How to Get There

The Burro territory is located approximately 20 miles east of Austin, Nevada. It is situated in the northwestern portion of the Toquima Mountain Range, providing a scenic and accessible location for visitors.

About the Burros

There are an estimated 90 burros residing in this territory. The burros in the Toquimas are predominantly black or dark brown, with distinctive white or oyster-colored undersides, muzzles, and areas encircling their eyes. Yearlings or foals have less pronounced white areas. On average, these burros stand 44 inches tall.
