ROUNDUP REPORT: Little Book Cliffs Wild Horse Roundup

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) is set to begin a helicopter roundup in the Little Book Cliffs Herd Management Area on September 11, 2024. The 36,113-acre area, primarily managed by the BLM, is located in northwest Colorado. A population survey from January 2018 estimates 211 wild horses in the region. Citing an unscientific appropriate management level (AML) of 90-150 horses the BLM plans to capture 140 horses, removing 120 and administering fertility control treatment PZP to the remaining 20, resulting in a 57% herd reduction. The captured horses will be moved to the Canon City Off-Range Corral for short-term holding (STH). The operation is expected to conclude by September 18.
